The Colorado Fallen Firefighters Resource Team ( NFFF’s LAST team) makes themselves available to all departments who have been stricken with a loss. Team members are trained in many aspects in dealing with Line of Duty Deaths.

The Local Assistance State Team (LAST)  is a group of caring professional from the fire service that understand the job and the risks that are involved.  The LAST is made up of a diverse group of people with years of experience in the fire service. When there is a Line of Duty Death, the LAST  will respond to help the families and the organization deal with their loss.   They are there to assist, give guidance, and compassion in during the time of need.

Several team members have been trained by Department of Justice, on proper procedures and filing of federal benefit paperwork. They have also received ongoing trainings  necessary to be proficient when dealing with Line Of Duty Deaths, and allows for a prompt response to agencies suffering a loss. The LAST will assist the families with death benefit claims, and questions from the Department of Justice.  They will also assist with the funeral planning and execution of the service, if requested to do so.

The team will help the family understand the role of the Colorado Fallen Fire Fighter Foundation and the National Fallen Fire Fighter Foundations and the benefits and support provided by these foundations.  Finally the Team is there to help with important dates and questions on an on going basis as needs arise.

In the case of a LODD, there are many necessary notifications on a Federal and State level that are required to be made. Team members are trained to assist departments with the proper notifications as well as the Federal paperwork process that will follow in the weeks and months to come.
